Linen fragment with design of octagons arranged diagonally
Brown and blue silk on linen, Egypt, 10th-15th century, probably Mamluk period. Also traces of yellow thread in some of the octagons, not noted by the museum.

Close examination of the zoom view also shows traces of yellow thread in some of the octagons, so I suspect that the orginal has diagonal stripes of the octagons, alternating brown and yellow, which I have shown in the graph.
The octagons are outlined in a blue filling stitch which appears to be cross stitch, and there are eyelet stitchs in the center of the intersections.
